The Spanish driving theory test for Arabic speakers: no Arabic paper, but exchange and French may apply

The permiso B theory test in Spain is not offered in Arabic. According to the DGT application form, the language of the car theory test can be Spanish, a co-official language, English, French or German. Arabic speakers come from many countries and their situations differ more than the language does, so this page starts with the licence and then covers the exam. The general rules for English and the other languages are in the DGT theory exam in English.

First check: can you exchange your licence instead?

Three Arabic-speaking countries are on the DGT list of exchange agreements: Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia (list updated 26 June 2026, checked 11 October 2026). If your car licence comes from one of them and you obtained it before becoming a legal resident of Spain, you may be able to exchange it without a theory or practical test, paying fee 2.3 of 28.87 EUR. Licences from countries such as Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Lebanon or Saudi Arabia are not on the list, so their holders must pass the DGT tests like any new driver. Read exchange or exam for the six-month rule and the conditions, and check the DGT page for your country: the list changes. Source: DGT, countries with an exchange agreement (in Spanish).

Which language for the paper

If you do have to sit, choose the language in which you read a precisely worded question fastest.

  • French. The DGT offers the car test in French. For people who studied in French in the Maghreb it can be the most comfortable choice. DrivingLingo does not have a French practice exam yet, so you would prepare with the Spanish and English material and the exam terms.
  • Spanish. Signs, notices and the law are in Spanish, and so is the road. The DGT also offers an easy-reading version of the test.
  • English. Also available; see how the exam works in English.

If you need more time for a justified reason, the regulation allows extending the time (annex VI.B.2). Ask your driving school or provincial traffic office how to document it.

How to study if your language is Arabic

  1. Link the rule to the exam term. Understanding a rule in Arabic is not enough if you do not recognise the word in the question: arcén, calzada, travesía.
  2. Practise the real format. 30 questions, three options, one image, at most 3 mistakes. Take today's free exam.
  3. Repair repeated mistakes. A repeated confusion is often a term misunderstood, not a rule forgotten.

What DrivingLingo has in Arabic

The app contains an Arabic version of part of the content. It is a draft and under review: no native speaker has checked it, so it can contain errors. Use it as support and rely on the Spanish term and on the law. The practice exam, the syllabus and the main explanations are in Spanish and English. We do not say the exam can be taken in Arabic, because it cannot.
