What it means
«Prohibición de paso a los vehículos cuya masa en carga supere la indicada en toneladas.» RD 465/2025, Annex I of the RGC (BOE-A-2025-12199), Spanish original.
It bans passage to vehicles above a specific mass, the one the sign shows in tonnes. Unlike R-107, it does not speak of the type of vehicle: it counts the mass of the loaded vehicle.
Where you meet it
You find it on a road or passage with a weight limit. It belongs to the passage-restriction signs, not to the no-entry ones (RGC art. 145.2.c).
What you must do
Compare your vehicle's mass with the figure on the sign. If it exceeds it, do not pass. The sign applies to any vehicle above that laden mass, a bus included: it does not distinguish by category.
Details that count
R-201 is one of the passage restrictions by a vehicle dimension: R-202 limits axle weight, R-203 length, R-204 width and R-205 maximum height, load included (RD 465/2025 catalogue). Note the term: R-201 speaks of laden mass, while R-107 speaks of maximum authorised mass. All of them are passage-restriction signs (RGC art. 145.2.c). That difference is what the exam tends to ask: the question gives you a maximum mass and asks for the right class, passage restriction or no entry (RGC art. 145.2).
What it is confused with
It is confused with R-107, the no-entry sign for goods vehicles above an authorised mass. The regulation separates the two classes by what they limit: a no-entry ban closes the way to a category of users, and a passage restriction does so by a vehicle dimension, such as weight or height (RGC art. 145.2.b and c).
