What it means

«Peligro por la proximidad a una zona con desprendimientos frecuentes y la consiguiente posible presencia de obstáculos en la calzada.» RD 465/2025, Annex I of the RGC (BOE-A-2025-12199), Spanish original.

The sign warns of an area with frequent rockfalls and of the possible presence of obstacles on the carriageway. It does not warn of the stone falling on top of you, but of the one already on the road as you round the bend: the hazard is the obstacle, not the impact.

Where you meet it

It is typical of a mountain road. In front of this sign, what you may find on the carriageway is debris from a rockfall.

What you must do

Moderate your speed and watch what is on the carriageway, above all as you leave bends. It is a triangle, so it carries no numeric limit: the duty to moderate comes from article 46 (RGC arts. 144.1 and 46.1).

Details that count

The triangle carries no number, but it is no ornament either: it triggers the duty to moderate your speed under article 46 and, if needed, to stop (RGC arts. 144.1 and 46.1). It carries no limit: the limit is set by the moderation rule or by a regulation sign, so «a warning sign forces you down to 50» is false. And a figure in metres on a panel below would measure what remains, not how long it lasts.

What it is confused with

It is confused with P-28, «Loose chippings», and with P-19. All three speak of what is on the road surface, but P-26 warns of obstacles from rockfall; P-28, of the risk that chippings are thrown up as vehicles pass; P-19, of loss of grip.
