What it means

«Peligro por la proximidad de un tramo de vía donde existe el riesgo de que se proyecte gravilla al pasar los vehículos.» RD 465/2025, Annex I of the RGC (BOE-A-2025-12199), Spanish original.

It warns that the surface may shed gravel. The hazard is not the gravel lying still but the gravel that passing vehicles throw up.

Where you meet it

It appears before the stretch with a risk of gravel being thrown up. Article 46.g expressly includes among the cases for moderating speed driving when water, gravel or other matter may be thrown onto people or vehicles.

What you must do

Moderate your speed, and not only for your own safety: the gravel you kick up lands on other vehicles' windscreens and on nearby motorcycles (RGC art. 46.1.g).

Details that count

Article 46.g requires you to moderate your speed on slippery surfaces or when water, gravel or other matter may be splashed or thrown onto people or things on the road or beside it. The three road-surface signs differ by property: grip (P-19), shape (P-15) and what the surface throws up as vehicles pass (P-28). The other triangle about what is on the surface is P-26, «Falling rocks»: it warns of obstacles on the carriageway from frequent rockfalls, not of what the surface throws up as vehicles pass (RD 465/2025 catalogue).

What it is confused with

It is confused with P-19, «Slippery road surface», and with P-15, «Uneven road surface»: three signs speak of the road surface and each about a different property. P-28 speaks of what the surface throws up as vehicles pass; P-19 of grip; P-15 of shape.
