What it means
«Prohibición de girar a la izquierda. Incluye, también, la prohibición del cambio de sentido de marcha.» RD 465/2025, Annex I of the RGC (BOE-A-2025-12199), Spanish original.
The sign bans turning left. Its official text adds that it also includes the ban on changing direction, so you cannot turn round by turning left at that junction.
Where you meet it
You see it at a junction where the left turn is not allowed. It belongs to the «other prohibition or restriction signs» class (RGC art. 145.2.d).
What you must do
Do not turn left or try to change direction at that junction. Each drawing goes with its meaning: the turn arrow is the banned turn, and the U-shaped form is the banned change of direction.
Details that count
The regulation bans changing direction in any situation that prevents you from checking that you endanger or obstruct no other user; the number of lanes or vehicles present is not, by itself, the cause of the ban (RGC art. 79.1). The sign adds a specific ban for this junction: the left turn, and with it the change of direction (RGC art. 145.2.d). There is also R-302, «No right turn»: their texts are symmetrical, but only the official description of the left-turn sign adds the change of direction of travel (RD 465/2025 catalogue).
What it is confused with
It is confused with R-304, «No U-turn». The difference is in scope: R-303 bans turning left and, in addition, changing direction; R-304 bans only the manoeuvre of changing the direction of travel. With R-304 turning left itself is not banned.
