What it means
«Peligro por la proximidad de un resalte o badén en la vía o pavimento en mal estado.» RD 465/2025, Annex I of the RGC (BOE-A-2025-12199), Spanish original.
The sign warns of a ridge or dip, or of a poor road surface. It speaks of the shape of the surface: what sticks up, what sinks and what is broken.
Where you meet it
It is placed before the stretch with an uneven surface. It is a triangle, so it only warns of what is coming and sets no speed limit (RGC art. 144.1).
What you must do
Moderate your speed and keep control of the vehicle: the warning triggers the general duty to moderate under article 46, with no fixed figure. A warning sign does not tell you how fast to go; that depends on the situation.
Details that count
If you see the same drawing in a red-bordered triangle and in a red-bordered circle, it does not mean the same: the shape decides the family and the family decides the legal force. The triangle belongs to P and only warns; the circle belongs to R and obliges or prohibits (RGC arts. 144.1 and 145.1). And the background colour says why the sign is there, not what it means: the symbol is worth the same. It carries no figure: the warning triggers the general duty to moderate, with no numeric limit (RGC arts. 144.1 and 46).
What it is confused with
It is confused with P-19, «Slippery road», and with P-28, «Loose chippings». All three speak of the road surface, but each of a different property: P-19 of grip, P-15 of shape and P-28 of what the surface throws up as vehicles pass.
