How much does a driving licence cost in Spain?
Reviewed on 14 October 2026 · sources: DGT, BOE, RACE and OCU
There is no single price for obtaining a category B licence. Separate the DGT fee, medical assessment, study materials and driving lessons. Ask for a written quote before booking: the lesson count and included services change the total.
Three costs to start with
| Item | Amount | Meaning and source |
|---|---|---|
| DGT fee 2.1 | €94.05 | Application fee for obtaining the licence; this is not the full cost of a licence. DGT: exam application. |
| Medical assessment | €30–50, indicative | Typical range published by RACE, 3 June 2026. Ask the centre for a quote; this is not a DGT tariff. |
| Driving lessons | €25–50 per lesson, indicative | Typical range published by RACE, 3 June 2026. Check the length of each lesson and the price of additional lessons. |
These ranges are budgeting references, not guaranteed prices or a national average measured by DrivingLingo. Checked on 14 October 2026.
What the fee covers and when you pay again
An application provides two attempts. After two failures, whether in the same test or different tests, you need a new application and fee. This does not mean two free failures in each test. DGT: fees and attempts and BOE: article 51.2.
The fitness report comes from an authorised driver assessment centre and is valid for 90 days for submitting the application. It is a separate cost from the fee. DGT: documents.
Build a budget without counting costs twice
Write down: DGT fee + medical assessment + theory preparation + enrolment or administration + lesson count × price per lesson + any quoted test-day or file-transfer charges. If a package already includes an item, do not add it again.
Before booking, ask:
- Does the total include VAT, the DGT fee, medical assessment and administration?
- How many lessons are included, and how many minutes does each last?
- What does an extra lesson cost, and what is charged for the test-day car?
- Are there charges for renewing enrolment, retaking a test or transferring the application file?
- What are the cancellation and unused-lesson terms?
OCU, 15 September 2026, recommends checking package inclusions and additional charges. These questions help you compare quotes; they do not imply that every provider charges each item.
Where DrivingLingo fits
DrivingLingo helps you study for the theory test. It does not include the DGT fee, medical assessment, enrolment, driving lessons, application administration or test-day car. We are not the DGT or a driving school and do not guarantee a pass.
The planned 90-day pass price is €19.99 including VAT, one payment with no subscription or renewal: approximately €0.22 per day when the total is divided by 90; it is not billed daily. Sales remain disabled. The daily exam, full topics 1–3 and the sign dictionary are free.
Read the independent application guide or contact support for app questions. Figures were reviewed on 14 October 2026; confirm the fee with the DGT and service prices with the provider before paying.
Common questions
Is the €94.05 fee only for theory?
The fee covers the licence application and its tests, not a course or a driving-school invoice. Check whether the school's quote includes it or whether you need to pay it separately. DGT: fee 2.1.
How much should I budget for the medical assessment?
RACE gives €30–50 as a typical reference range. Confirm the amount directly with the centre before booking; this guide does not replace its quote. The assessment is not included in the DrivingLingo pass. RACE: licence costs.
How do I compare two driving-lesson offers?
Compare lesson duration, the number included and the cost of additional lessons. Also ask about the test-day car and cancellation terms. A lower price per lesson is not enough to compare packages with different lesson lengths. OCU: checking packages.
Must I pay another fee after one failed test?
One failure alone does not use the application's allowance of two failures. Count failures in other tests under the same application too: the allowance is not two failures per test. DGT: attempts and costs and BOE: article 51.2.
Can I buy the DrivingLingo pass now?
No: sales are disabled. The planned €19.99 price for 90 days covers theory preparation, without a subscription. Meanwhile, the daily exam, full topics 1–3 and the sign dictionary are free to use, without registration.
