What it means
«Peligro por la proximidad de una intersección con una vía, cuyos usuarios deben ceder el paso.» RD 465/2025, Annex I of the RGC (BOE-A-2025-12199), Spanish original.
The sign warns that a junction with another road lies ahead and that the users of that road must give way. It is a warning triangle: it anticipates and, on its own, regulates nothing (RGC art. 144.1).
Where you meet it
You meet it before you reach the junction. If a panel with a figure in metres sits below it, that figure is the distance still to go to the hazard, not how long the hazard lasts (RGC art. 144.2).
What you must do
With no panel and no speed limit, the triangle sets no figure, but it does trigger the duty to moderate your speed under article 46 and, if needed, to stop (RGC arts. 144.1 and 46.1). It is false that a warning sign forces you down to 50: it carries no limit.
Details that count
Two details the exam exploits. A panel under the sign answers a different question each time (where the hazard starts, how long it lasts, whom it affects, which lane), and a panel with the word EXCEPT reverses the scope: the sign applies to everyone but what the panel names (RGC art. 137.2; RGC Annex I, section 5, §2.3 and panel S-880).
What it is confused with
It gets mixed up with R-3, «Priority road». Both talk about priority at a junction, but the class differs: the triangle (code P) only warns of a risk that is hard to see in time, while R-3 (code R) is a regulation sign and states the priority of your carriageway over the other at junctions (RGC arts. 144 and 145.2.a). Nor is it P-3, which warns of traffic lights.
