What it means

«Indica la existencia de un paso a nivel, un puente móvil o un muelle a una distancia de 200 m. […]» RD 465/2025, Annex I of the RGC (BOE-A-2025-12199), Spanish original.

It is not a triangle but a marker that counts the distance: it shows that a level crossing, a movable bridge or a quay is 200 m ahead. It never stands alone: it always accompanies the main sign for the crossing.

Where you meet it

It stands on the right-hand side of the carriageway and always comes with P-5, P-7, P-8 or P-27, the main signs for the crossing, movable bridge or quay.

What you must do

Use it as a countdown: 200 m remain to the crossing. Apply whatever the accompanying main sign requires.

Details that count

The duty to drive below the maximum permitted speed when approaching a level crossing or movable bridge is created neither by this marker nor by the triangle: it comes from article 95, and it is stricter than the generic duty to moderate, because it holds whatever that maximum is (RGC art. 95.1). Remember too that the level-crossing series is read in pairs: P-7 with barriers and P-8 without (RGC Annex I, para. 5).

What it is confused with

It is confused with the other markers in the series. The markers count down: «a» (200 m) is the farthest, «b» (150 m) and «c» (100 m) close in on the crossing, and «c» is the one right on top of it. The P-9 markers go on your right and the P-10 on your left. And it is not a main sign: it does not replace P-5, P-7, P-8 or P-27.
