What it means

«Peligro por la proximidad de un paso a nivel provisto de barreras o semibarreras.» RD 465/2025, Annex I of the RGC (BOE-A-2025-12199), Spanish original.

It announces a level crossing with barriers or half-barriers; another sign exists for crossings that have none.

Where you meet it

It comes before the level crossing and may be accompanied by approach markers (P-9) that count down the distance to it.

What you must do

Approach below the maximum permitted speed (RGC art. 95.1). With the barriers up, do not enter if there is a queue on the far side: the barrier tells you whether a train is coming, not whether you fit on the other side (RGC art. 95.3). With the barrier across or moving, do not enter (RGC art. 96.1).

Details that count

Article 96 sets a different duty for each form of protection: barriers or half-barriers, lights, or none. The barrier and the light are two independent prohibitions: one stop indication is enough to block the way. And when protection is missing, the duty to check the railway covers «no road user», not only drivers: a pedestrian has it just the same (RGC art. 96). The duty to drive below the maximum permitted speed does not come from the triangle but from article 95, and it is stricter than the generic duty to moderate because it holds whatever that maximum is (RGC art. 95.1).

What it is confused with

It is confused with P-8, «Level crossing without barriers». The level-crossing series is read in pairs: with barriers (P-7) and without them (P-8). Nor is it the cross P-11, which does not warn from afar: it marks the barrier-free crossing itself (RD 465/2025 catalogue).
