DGT theory test results: checking, retakes and validity
Sources: BOE, DGT
Check your DGT theory test result through the DGT online results service or miDGT. If you fail, check the opportunities remaining on your application before paying again: the application provides two sittings, and the DGT requires a new application and fee after two failures, whether in the same test or different tests. Sources: DGT results service, article 51.2 of the General Driver Regulations and DGT examination application.
For the paper itself, see the DGT theory test format. This guide explains the administrative steps after an appointment.

Finding your result
The web service asks for your identity document number, date of birth, examination date and licence category. Select category B if that is the test you took. The DGT also offers results through miDGT and keeps results available online for the last 15 days. Source: DGT results service.
The DGT page gives different publication information for computer-based and paper tests. Consult that page for your test type instead of relying on another candidate's experience. If a result is missing, check the details entered. Absence of a result does not mean a failure or a pass.
Contact your driving school about an incident if it arranged the examination. If you applied independently, contact the traffic office handling the file through the DGT's listed channels. Save the result when it becomes available, particularly if you need to discuss a discrepancy. The online display period and the legal validity of a pass are different matters.
Understanding the outcome
Article 53.1 establishes pass and fail outcomes. For the usual 30-question format, a maximum of 3 mistakes meets the 10% error rule in annex VI.B.3. The DGT format description confirms the questionnaire size.
A total number of mistakes does not identify your weak topics. Keep your subsequent review focused on rules you found uncertain rather than trying to recreate the examination paper. For a discrepancy in the published outcome, ask your driving school or traffic office which procedure applies to your case; describe the issue and retain the examination details.
Remaining sittings and the fee
If you have used only the first opportunity and still have another on the application, a single failure does not by itself require a new fee. After two failures, the DGT requires a new application and payment, including when one failure was in theory and the other in a practical test. Source: DGT application and examination opportunities.
The DGT application page (accessed 19 October 2026) lists fee 2.1 at €94.05. This is the administrative fee; driving-school preparation costs are separate. Payment arrangements are explained in the DGT examination fee guide.
Article 51.2 sets a maximum of six months between sittings within the same file, except for duly justified illness or other exceptional circumstances. That is a maximum interval, not an instruction to wait six months. Annex VI.A.2 sets minimum intervals of ten days between the second and third sittings after two failures, and fifteen days between subsequent sittings, with justified exceptional reductions. Confirm your actual appointment with the office handling the file. Source: annex VI.A.2.

How long a theory pass remains valid
A pass is valid for two years from the following day. If you pass the next test within that period, the validity period starts again. This is the wording of article 53.1. Record the date of your pass and plan the remaining licensing process around it.
A pass in theory does not authorise independent driving. Continue with the tests and licensing requirements that apply to you. For practical arrangements, use the examination-day guide and the English examination FAQ.
If another theory attempt is needed, return to the topics. Identify whether each uncertainty came from a definition, a conditional rule or reading the situation too quickly. Then practise again using the English theory test.
Frequently asked questions
Where can I see my theory test result?
Use the DGT online results service or miDGT. The web service needs identity and examination details and displays tests from the last fifteen days.
Does a missing result mean I failed?
No. Check the details and the DGT publication information. Contact your driving school or traffic office if there is an incident.
Do I pay a new fee after one failure?
A first failure does not itself require another fee if an opportunity remains on your application. Confirm your file before paying.
Do theory and practical failures count together?
Yes. The DGT requires a new application and fee after two failures in the same test or different tests.
How long is a theory pass valid?
Two years from the day after the pass. Under article 53.1, passing the next test within that period starts the validity period again.
